I'm sure there's more sites that I'm not aware of, so if you know of any which you think should really be here, please let me know!
At the bottom of this page, you'll find a list of metro Boston-area stores and tracks which I've actually visited. Hopefully you'll find this a useful reference if you're looking for R/C action in New England!
| Tower Hobbies has a huge catalog of stuff for R/C Cars and planes. If you need upgrades or replacement parts, more likely than not, Tower stocks it. I find their shipping and handling fees a bit steep, though, so you may want to consider other options as well. | |
| The off-road R/C FAQ, maintained by Mark Brown includes lots of information on how to get started in this interesting hobby, including how much it costs to get started with new equipment, how to make motor choices, tips on building the car, etc. Great resource! | |
| The East Coast model center has a great set of introductory documents including introductions to R/C Aircraft, gliders, helicopters, cars and trucks, radios and engines. | |
| The R/C Source is a huge collection of links, resources, clubs, and tips catering to almost any sort of RC model (airplane, helicopters, cars, trucks, etc. etc. etc...) The links are well organized and described, making this a great jump-off point. | |
| The R/C Exchange bills itself as the "The Worlds Largest Internet R/C Classifieds." Even if its not, they still have a lot of R/C listings here, and not just for cars. | |
| The R/C Zone Swap and Shop has a lot of stuff for sale from other web surfers, and much of this stuff has pictures associated with it! | |
| The Edge R/C Used Car lot is, as you might imagine, a listing of R/C cars and gear for sale by fellow Internet users. This is presented in a BBS-style message base. | |
| Radio Control Classified has a neat classified search engine for its listings, and has a wide variety of R/C stuff for sale. |
After extensive research in the Boston area, I've located some stores and tracks which are useful resources both to buy stuff, and in the case of tracks, fun places to go hang out and talk with other enthusiasts. These are presented in no particular order, and some of these places don't have web sites. The ones that do have appropriate links.
| Hi-Tech Hobbies and Raceway [(508)880-5373] in Raynham, MA is a really nice place to hang out. They have an outdoor track, and they allow up to 1/10th scale gas or electric off-road vehicles (no MP-5's unfortunately) on the track. The store owners are really nice people, and they race every Sunday. They seem to specialize in electric 1/10th buggies and trucks, with Losi and Associated getting roughly equal treatment. They keep a decent amount of parts in stock. Also, now that it's wintertime, they have a great indoor track available in Brockton. It's a good size, and they have it open twice weekly. A nice experience overall, and the participants all seem to be real nice people. Highly recommended. | |
| Hobby Etc. [(603)883-4919] in Nashua, NH is a good sized store. They have a lot of 1/10th scale lexan bodies in stock, and are well stocked for upgrades for many different cars, trucks and buggies. Unfortunately, I've only been here once so far, and didn't have a lot of time to look around when I was here. They seem to do a lot of aluminum/alloy specialized upgrade parts for specific cars, too (including the MP-5!). | |
| Alex's Hobbyworks [(617)924-1243] in Watertown, MA is a smaller store. They have a wide variety of R/C stuff, but not a huge amount in the way of upgrades or replacement parts. Alex is the most convenient place to metro Boston, however. This store probably specializes more in planes and helicopters than in R/C Cars. |
