Thanks for coming in here so that I can spout off about my favorite car!
First, a preface, though. Like I said on the home page, I'm a big fan of all vehicles which place 'fun to drive' high on their list of characteristics. I just personally prefer the Mazda RX-7 to other performance cars. People tend to get quite passionate about their personal favorites, and this I can understand, but the last thing I want to get is a huge pile of flaming E-mail about why another car is better, faster, stronger, etc. etc.
You get the point.
So enough with the flame protection, let's get to it!
P.S. Most of these sections could do with some photos. So far, there's some photos in the 'history' section, and also in my personal chronology, and as I collect more photos (always with the proper authorization and accreditation), I'll add them.
| Contained herein is a brief history of the RX-7, including a special 'identification chart' for second and third-generation RX-7s listing features and models. | |
| Statistics for the various models and varieties of RX-7's | |
| Personal RX-7 stuff. Here's where to go for information on my own RX-7s, including various small anecdotes like my drive in a blizzard, details on various mild modifications, and other wacky stuff. | |
| RX-7 Ice Time Trials. Here's a blurb I wrote about participating in an Ice-Time Trial in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in February, 1998. | |
| Other resources on the web for RX-7 enthusiasts, including a large list of hyperlinks. Also included here are lots of links for lots of general automotive sites, and sites about other cars. | |
| A list of RX-7 enthusiasts available on ICQ. (Go to the Mirabilis web site for more information on what ICQ is.) |
Over the years, I've had to chase down some of the electrical and mechanical gremlins which plague the second generation RX-7. I've chronicled a few of these problems and my experiences tackling them, and am leaving them here, so that hopefully, you can benefit from my (mis)adventures.
Each one of these entries contains specific information on how to address each of these problems.
| The logicon is the control module for the heater/AC controls. This unit likes to develop cracks in its solder joints, and this in turn causes loss of heater/vent control. | |
| The radio likes to develop solder joint problems as well, causing crackly audio or intermittent operation of one or more speakers. | |
| Flooding is a common complaint amongst RX-7's as they age. Here's how to get one started without getting seriously charged by the dealer! | |
| The clock/warning light cluster likes to develop solder joint problems as well, causing flickering lights, and wacky resetting-clock problems. |
Curiously enough, I haven't been able to resist the temptation to start fiddling around with my third generation car as well. I've started doing some writeups for these procedures as well.
| A Turbo Timer is a good investment to prolong the life of your turbos. This documents the installation process. | |
| A Boost Gauge is a definite must-have gauge when you're troubleshooting performance (causing me to wonder why Mazda didn't include one in the car). This documents the installation process. |
