----------Vandalized RX-7----------

In April of 1998, while my 3rd generation car was in a parking structure, it was damaged by what is apparently a random act of vandalism.

Dings on the Driver's side door As far as I can tell, the vandals really didn't like the fact that the car was shiny, and decided to mark it up several times, using a sharp instrument.

As you can see here, there are tons of little dings in the driver's side door panel. What you really can't see from the photo is that every one of those little dings broke the paint, so that 'paintless dent removal' is not an option.

I suppose it's 'theoretically' possible that what happened here was not intentional, but try as I might, I can't really think of an instance where something like this could happen by accident??

Gouge on the Passenger's side fender Apparently, it wasn't enough that these guys seriously screwed up the driver's side door panel. They took it upon themselves to make sure that I'd need work done on the other side of the car, as well, by placing a very deep gouge into the passenger's side fender, as you can see here. As added fun, they put a smaller ding in the hood, a ding in the passenger's side door, and also a scrape on the rear bumper.

Fun, eh?

The insurance company has estimated the cost to repair the damage to be in the neighborhood of $2800.

As a side note, my 2nd generation car has also seen its fair share of being vandalized. Ok, it's seen way more than it's fair share. Not only has it picked up the normal 'door dings' from having unconscious people opening their doors into mine, but it's been keyed several times while sitting in the parking lot at the office.

Seems that someone doesn't want people to have shiny cars in the parking lot.

One more thing. To all you punks out there who think that doing this sort of thing is cool, it seems only fair that someday, you spend a lot on something you really like, whether it be a car, a house, or anything else of value, and a similar fate befalls you.
